Breast Augmentation Surgery Overseas

Breast Augmentation surgery is performed to correct less developed breasts and breasts that have decreased in size following child bearing. The procedure involves the insertion of smooth or textured cohesive silicone-gel implants to enlarge breast size, enhance shape and fullness of the breast, improve symmetry and provide a well proportioned natural look. The implant can be placed either under the breast tissue (sub-fascial) or under the chest wall muscle depending on the patient’s anatomy and preference.

Risks & Possible Complications

Infection, loss of nipple sensation, accumulation of blood requiring drainage, capsular contracture, implant rupture and complications related to anaesthesia in some rare cases.

There are relatively few complications associated with Breast Augmentation surgery. However any time you have surgery, complications can occur. It is possible that bleeding may occur around the implant forming a hematoma. Anytime you place a foreign body into the body, infection is a concern. However, the patient is placed on antibiotics following surgery to decrease the possibility of infection. There is the possibility of “capsular contracture” around the implant. When this happens, thick scar tissue forms round the implant causing the implant to feel hard and tight. Should you develop this type of problem, correction is possible.

Breast Augmentation Procedure

Breast Augmentation surgery is usually performed under general anesthetic. The incision can be placed in one of three areas; in the breast crease, the axillary fold (the under arm area) or around the areola (nipple area). The decision on where the incision is to be made depends on the patient’s anatomy, implant and personal preference. A pocket is then made, usually under the muscle. Then a Cohesive Silicone (Memory Gel) implant is placed in the pocket. The incision is closed with either nylon removalable or dissolvable sutures. A dressing is then placed and followed with a surgical bra. This dressing will be removed by the doctor approximately 3-4 days following surgery.

Post-op Recovery

During the first 24-48 hours after Breast Augmentation surgery, bed rest is required. The period of greatest discomfort usually does not last more than 3 days. During this time you may need assistance doing simple things like going to the bathroom and getting out of bed. Pain medication is provided to help relieve you of pain. You should not raise your arms or do any lifting for 2 weeks following surgery. You will not be able to sleep on your stomach for a minimum of 4 weeks following the surgery. You should also avoid being in the sun for approximately 4 weeks following surgery and going in the sea for a mininum of 6 weeks.
